Many people are waiting for iPhone 6 launch. There will be 2 models, 4.7 inch version and 5.5 inch version. Good news for many iPhone lovers that apple is finally coming up with bigger screen. iPhone 6 will come with higher specs than iPhone 5S, as it is coming with bigger screen it should pack in with bigger battery to power those extra pixels in that bigger screen. One interesting thing apart from usual high end hardware specs in iPhone 6 is its screen. Almost all high end scratch resistant smartphone screens will have Gorilla glass. Which are pretty much well known for scratch proof, there are many scratch resistance test for any new smartphone which are released to market, and Gorilla glass holds up pretty well, but no one will assure that there won't be any scratch on your smartphone's screen.
Well, Apple as usual will introduce something new with its flagship device. This time it is going to be Sapphire glass. Sapphire glass is the same glass material which iPhone 5S's home button made of. Some tech reviewers have already got the dummy iPhone 6 model and a very few has also given with the screen with which iPhone 6 will be shipped! In one of the review, the iPhone 6's screen has been tested for scratch proof. And it stands up pretty well, the reviewer try to scratch using keys and knife. He stabs the screen hard with knife still no scratch on screen. He tries to bend the screen nothing happened! Clearly with that review iPhone 6's screen is almost unbreakable. OR IS IT!?
OK, let me explain which type of glass/screen will scratch or resist scratch. Well, any material will undergo scratch only when the hardness of material which we are rubbing against other material (in this case screen) is higher. The measurement of such resistance to scratch is measured in Mohs scale. Higher the Mohs scale value, more the resistance for scratch. iPhone 6's screen had no scratch when it is rubbed with knife or keys, that proves iPhone 6's Sapphire crystal display is having more Mohs value than the material that Key or Knife made of which are used in the review. Can iPhone 6's screen ever be scratched!? Answer is yes. Any Material which is harder than Sapphire crystal should be able to leave its marks on screen. But expert's review shows that even a sand paper (whose Mohs scale is less than sapphire crystal) could scratch the screen. which means, iPhone 6's display is not made of pure sapphire crystal, which would have resulted in very high price! The reviewer even goes to a extend of destroying it! Check out his review here.
At the end of the day, everything can be destroyed! It all depends on how we handle it! :)
P.S: There is nothing called scratch proof according to science! Because when we rub one material with another, we are actually rubbing the atoms that those materials made of! when they are rubbed, for sure there will be movement of atoms in each material. But we call it scratch only when we can see those movement of atoms through our naked eyes!
